stations. The minimum DO recorded at the top of the water column
as-well as the maximum and minimum DO recorded at the bottom of ;'_.
the water column-indicates that low DO occurs seasonally in most
wetland waters. Our observations indicate that high DO only
occurred at the very top of the water .column in many wetlands.
The middle and bottom of the water column were. anoxic for many
stations during most of the summer. Invertebrates adapted to
:these conditions congregate at the top of the water-column,-and
small fishes can do the same.
~H,. pH was variable among stations, but all were greater
than 7.0. The ,highest pH readings were in the river. pH's
closest to 7.0 occurred in the lower DO waters. Waters with the
highest temperatures had the lowest pH's in the-study area., which
is favorable for keeping most ammonia in the ionized form.
Heavy Metals. In general Moab wetland waters did not
contain high concentrations of heavy metals. However,
exceedences of the state standards for aquatic-.life do occur.-
