Mt. Ouray Hatchery <br />Location: Two miles northwest of Salida in Chaffee County. <br />Physical Structure: Small hatchery, 12 troughs and six nurse basins; plans are already approved <br />to double the size of the hatchery and put in a UV filter system. <br />Water Source: one spring, 600 to 700 gpm, and one spring on the Hux lease that supplies 400 <br />gpm of piped water to the unit <br />Number of Personnel: run in conjunction with Mt. Shavano hatchery <br />Species Reared: rainbow trout <br />One-Year Production: 348,000 subcatchables <br />Operating Cost: No figures available. <br />Operating Cost per Inch Planted: No figures available. <br />Fish Health History: 1989 - whirling disease <br />Current Health Status: whirling-disease positive but could become negative this month (May) <br />with the completion of one more negative inspection. <br />Mt. Shavano Hatchery <br />Location: The hatchery is located on the Arkansas River '/z mile northwest of Salida in Chaffee <br />County. <br />Physical Structure: Hatchery building containing 22 hatchery troughs/basins and 5 incubators. <br />Six nurse basins (covered), along with 3,500 ft of outside raceways and 18 concrete rearing <br />ponds. <br />Water Source: Surface water, Arkansas River amounting to 17 cfs; springs, seepage and Mt. <br />Ouray hatchery recycled water can total approximately 10-26 cfs. <br />Number of Personnel: 10.6 permanent FTE's and 12 months of temporary time (NOTE: this <br />unit is operated in conjugation with the Mt. Ouray hatchery) <br />Species Reared: rainbow trout, Snake River cutthroat, Pikes Peak Cutthroat, kokanee, brook <br />trout, brown trout, mackinaw, and splake <br />Three-Year Production Average: 764,000 catchables with an average size of 9.95 inches and <br />932,000 subcatchable with an average size of 3.21 inches <br />Operating Costs: $607,719 <br />Operating Cost per Inch Planted: $0.057 <br />Fish Health History: 1975 - ERM and IPNV; 1982 - Cryrodactylus and Epistylis; 1983 - IHNV; <br />1985 - "Ich"; 1987 - whirling disease; 1990 - Nodular gill disease and 1992 - BKD <br />Current Health Status: whirling-disease positive <br />71
