Finger Rock Rearing Unit <br />Location: The unit is located 3 miles south of the town of Yampa in Routt County. <br />Physical Structure: Five earthen ponds with a total surface are of 4.66 acres and two long <br />raceways. <br />Water Supply: Two springs greatly influenced by irrigation, summer flows 6.3 cfs and winter <br />flows 2.8 cfs. Water temperature varies from 42°F to 50°F. A second source of water is <br />Pony Creek, but this source is seldom used. <br />Number of Personnel: Two permanent FTE's with supervision provided from the Rifle Falls <br />hatchery. The unit also has 10 months of temporary time. <br />Species Reared: rainbow trout, Snake River cutthroat, and Emerald Lake cutthroat <br />Three-year production average: 273,000 catchable with an average size of 9.95 inches and <br />41,600 subcatchables with an average size of 2.32 inches. <br />Operating Costs: $166,858 <br />Operating Costs per Inch Planted: $0.059 <br />Fish Health History: 1978 - ERM; 1994 - whirling disease <br />Current Health Status: whirling-disease positive <br />Glenwood Springs Hatchery <br />Location: The hatchery is located on Mitchell Creek near the town of Glenwood in Garfield <br />County. <br />Physical Structure: One hatchery building capable of holding 21 million eggs and hatching 5 <br />million eggs, 12 nurse basins, and one series of raceways containing eight connecting units. <br />Water Source: Springs adjudicated for 3.75 cfs and a diversion on Mitchell Creek that is adjusted <br />for 4.52 cfs. Water temperature from both sources varies from 34°F to 50°F. <br />Number of Personnel: Four permanent FTE's. The supervisor is responsible for both Glenwood <br />and Crystal River. Sixteen months of temporary time are also split with Crystal River. <br />Species Reared: rainbow trout, kokanee, mackinaw, Colorado River cutthroat (A-strain), brook <br />trout, and splake <br />Three-Year Production Average: 549 catchables at an average size of 20.37 inches (surplus <br />brood fish) and 3 million subcatchables at an average size of 1.85 inches. <br />Operating Costs: $196,335 <br />Operating Cost per Inch Planted: $0.036 <br />Fish Health History: 1975 - BKD; 1987 - ERM <br />Current Health Status: Specific pathogen free <br />70
