The alternative forage fish will be obtained from <br />wild sources. <br />Tanks will be checked once every 24 hours and fish taken or killed <br />will be recorded, replaced with another individual of the same species, <br />and the trial terminated after seven days. The experiment will consist <br />of four replications for each of the three forage species combinations. <br />Different bass will be used for each replication. <br />In the size-preference experiment, several young squawfish of two <br />sizes, small (50-65 mm TL), medium (75-90 mm TL), and large (100-120 mm <br />TL) will be offered to each bass. In all other respects, this experiment <br />will be run in essentially the same manner as the first. Unlike Tar- <br />rant's (1960) size-preference study, five replicate trials.will be per- <br />formed rather than one prolonged trial. <br />m <br />35
