Many of these projects and programs were instigated or facilitated by the two
Clear Creek Watershed Forums organized and attended by a diverse group of
stakeholder interests. Clear Creek watershed effort is a pattern for ecosystem
protection in Colorado. The water and watershed through which it flows eashly
establishes a sense of place for the citizens and a focus for efforts to protect the
environment. Over 85%'0 of the water is used as a drinking water supply for the
metro area, therefore the people of the lowlands have a special interest in
remediation of the impacts of the past mining activities. Also the enhancement
and protection of natural aces for recreation have spawned several joint projects
throughout the watershed.
