3
6027 feet above sea level to provide space in the reservoir to absorb the above average inflow.
Conversely, in years where the early indications are that the spring is going to be dry, the reservoir
is typically drawn down to a target higher than 6027 so the reservoir has a better chance of filling
despite the dry conditions. This flexibility has now been incorporated into the Flaming Gorge
model. In anticipated wet years, the drawdown target is now set to 6025 feet above sea level and
in anticipated dry years, the drawdown target is set to 6029 feet above sea level.
Model Results
Flow Recommendations
Table 1 shows the current state of the Action and No Action alternatives in terms of how
well each alternative achieves the specific recommendations of the 2000 Flow Recommendations
during the spring in Reaches One and Two. While the No Action alternative does not attempt to
meet any of these targets, a comparison between the Action and No Action results does indicate
some of the key differences between the operational regimes.
TART.F. 1 7.(1M Flnw RPrnmmPnrlatinnc TaraPt Flnw.c_ ilnratinnc and FrenllenCleS
Spring Peak Flow Reach Target % Action No Action
Recommendations Ruleset Ruleset
Peak >= 26,400 cfs 2 10 % 11.3% 7.1%
For at least 1 da
Peak >= 22,700 cfs 2 10 % 10.7% 4.6%
For at least 2 weeks.
Peak >= 18,600 cfs 2 10 % 1 l.l% 6.0%
For at least 4 weeks.
Peak >= 20,300 cfs
2
30 %
46.3%
42.3%
For at least 1 da .
Peak >= 18,600 cfs 2 40 % 41.1% 15.6%
For at least 2 weeks.
Peak >= 18,600 cfs 2 50 % 60.3% 59.1%
for at least 1 day.
Peak >= 8,300 cfs 2 100 % 100% 98.5%
for at least 1 da .
Peak >= 8,300 cfs 2 90 % 96.8% 96.9%
for at least 1 week.
Peak >= 8,300 cfs
for at least 2 days except 2 98 % 99.6% 98.4%
in extreme dr ears.
Peak >= 8,600 cfs 1 10% 30.2% 6.5%
for at least 1 da .
Peak >= 4,600 cfs 1 100% 100% 100%
for at least 1 da .
Reservoir Wet and Dry Cycle Results
