Scatter plot of July and August, 1992 -1996 YOY chub CPEs against respective spring
peak as recorded at the State Line gage. Data presented for the above canyon and canyon sub-
reaches in Westwater Canyon, Colorado River.
More data points are needed to validate this relationship and better define the boundaries of this
flow window. The above-canyon August relationship is the most varied because of the 1993 data
point. As discussed earlier this was highest CPE recorded throughout the study during high
flows. From this single data point we might postulate that the optimum flow window for
roundtad chub (humpback chubs are scarse in this stretch of river) reproduction is broader or
shifted toward higher flows.
The strong correlation between July catch razes and the previous years peak further confuses this
simple relationship and indicates the optimum spawning flows are likely dependent to some
degree onstage-setting flows the previous year.
DRAFT
16 _
