High concentration and concentration areas were determined from fall
larval seining with 3 X 5 mm2 mesh minnow seines for the years
1979-1982. Catch of fishes pet 10 m2 seined was used as the
catch-effort value computed 1.5 and 1.25 times for high
concentration and concentration areas, respectively. Colorado
squawfish > 25 mm TL (25 - 60 mm TL) were defined as YOY.
e.) Juveniles and Adults
Sensitive areas were determined from spring electrofishing
collection data, 1979-1984.
2. Humpback Chub
Concentration areas for adult humpback chub were determined from
collection and habitat data. Collection of five adults was considered
adequate to delineate both concentration and suspected spawning areas if
such collections occurred within one year and took place in deep canyon
habitat. Confirmed spawning areas were those where one or more ripe
females had been collected (strippable eggs). Separate classifications
were not made for larval and juvenile humpback chubs because of the
difficulty in identification.
3. Razorback Sucker
Razorback sucker sensitive areas were determined from the Vernal
database. Adult concentration areas were delineated for sections of
river that had 10 of more captures. Spawning areas were suspected where
2 or more ripe male razorback sucker were captured.
