The transferable model allows calculations of
visitor-related economic impacts at a state, county and local level generated
in association with hunting and fishing activity. Additional work involved
refining estimates of sportsman expenditures. This model allows estimates
of direct expenditure losses from reduced fishing-days, for example.
Building upon this visitation model, BBC prepared a more expansive
economic model which estimated the direct expenditures and resulting
economic effects from fishing and hunting and wildlife-related activities
throughout the western United States. This assignment was performed for
the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the Colorado
Division of Wildlife. The final model allows estimates of economic and fiscal
effects of tourism related to hunting and fishing throughout the Western
United States. BBC maintains the largest date base on this subject in the
Western U.S.
Sponsored by Colorado Ski Country, USA, The Colorado Association of Ski
Towns (CAST), and Colorado's major banks, BBC undertook a major study
of the economic impact of skiing on the Colorado economy. This study,
conducted in 1982 and updated six times in subsequent years, includes case
studies in Colorado counties with strong ski industries. The ski industry
report provides a characterization of skier visitors, an economic model of
tourism expenditures and quantification of visitor impacts.
• BBC is currently assisting in the establishment of a new wildlife refuge at a
large site formerly used for defense and industrial production. BBC's role has
included identifying constituencies for the project and organizing the
stakeholder participation process. The market potential and strengths and
' weakness of the site were evaluated and projections of visitors and revenues
were developed. BBC has also assisted in identifying user groups,
developing marketing strategies and setting goals and objectives.

1

1
In early 1987, BBC analyzed the economic impacts of major league sports
and related stadium development, for the Denver Baseball Commission. This
project was updated in 1990. Economic impacts, such as revenues, public
tax receipts and changes in local employment, were addressed. Related
effects upon area tourism and travel industries, as well as economic
development goals, were also quantified. Prospects for public/private
ventures were evaluated.
BBC has evaluated the market prospects and financial feasibility of
numerous site specific projects related to recreation and tourism. Individual
studies have examined new resorts, various commercial and residential
developments, golf courses, bowling alleys, resort hotels, convention centers,
theme parks, health clubs, horse tracks and ski areas.
