Pa,onia Proiect. Colorado. Construe='
tion of Pa,onia Dam on Muddy Creek and
the lining and extension of the Fire
Mountain Canal will assure adequate
water for 13,100 acres. of supplemental
land and 2,200 acres of new land. The
Pa,onia area is noted for fruit produc-
tion--peached, Cherries, and apples--
as well as livestock, feed and forage.
Vernal Unit, Central Utah Proaect,
Utah. Chronic water shortage will be
eliminated on the 14,700 acres of irri-
gated farms in the Ashley Valley. In
addition, municipal water will be sup-
plied to the co~+t~n~ties of Vernal,
Maeser, and Naples. Steinaker Dam will
provide the carryover storage which
will bring lon-awated relief from crops
that dry up late each summer.
Florida. Proiect, Colorardo. Con-
straction of Lemon Dam on the Florida
River was started in 1961. First
water deliveries are expected in 1964.
Farmers on the 19,450-acre project
area voted 315 to 1 in favor of the
repayment contract--in favor of assum-
ing the obligation to repa$ $1,775,000
in 30 years. This ~.s eloquent evidence
on the need for the Florida project.
Seedskadee Proiect, Wyomir~. Some
58,800 acres of windblown, sagebrush
grazing land will ultimately be trans-
formed into 285 irrigated farms. Fon-
tenelle Dam, the~lcey structure located
on the Green River, was started in
1961. Because of valuable trona. de-
posits underlying the southern part of
the area, the project will be stage
developed. About 43.000 acres will be
ir~i.gated in the initial stage; devel-
opment of the rema9.nder will await
experience with the subsidence which
attends the underground mining of the
trona deposits.
