Glen Canyon Unit <br />The Glen Canyon- Dam and Reservoir, will comprise the key <br />storage Unit and will be the largest of the initial four. it will <br />,provide. about 80 `%~ of both the storage and generating capacity and ~~ <br />Kili be roughly comparable in -size to Hoover Dam and Lake :Mead` <br />The concrete. gravity-arch dam located in northern :~rizona on -the:- <br />.., Colorado River, 12.4 miles downstream from the Utah-Arizona:: <br />state line, anal. 15.3 miles upstream.. from Lees Ferry will extend <br />X80 feet above -the river. It will be a little lower than Hoover--Dam <br />and will be the second highest dam in the United States. The reser- <br />~~oir will have a capacity of 28 million acre-feet and Kill extend 186 <br />.Hiles upstream on the Colorado River, and 71 miles up the San . <br />.Yuan River: The power house,: which .will be located at the. toe of __' <br />~the dam,: will -have eight. generating units with a total installed <br />"capacity of 900,000 ki.lowatts.. . ,- - <br />- ~ - -= <br />Construciion acti~-it.ies <br />Temporary construction headquarters for the Glen Canyon <br />:~ Dam and Reservoir. have been established at Kanah, Utals,; 70 <br />~rsiles.west of the dam site. The State of L'tah has constructed ~a ' <br />- dirt access road bet~seen the site and Iianab. Telephone lines- have. <br />i,een installed by the Mountain- States Telephone and Telegraph, <br />Company. Tu-enty-five miles of access read are under construction°' . <br />to the dam site from Bitter Springs,.
