Those alternatives considered in detail will include a discussion
of expected environmental impacts and recommended mitigation
measures to minimize those impacts in following sections.
Alternatives are compared with each other on the basis of how
well they-meet the study objectives, and the best resolution of
public and regulatory agency issues.
ALTERNATIVES WITHIN THE CAPABILITY OF THE APPLICANT
AND WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE CORPS
SANDSTONE DAM AND RESERVOIR
LOCATION
3.04 The Sandstone Dam and Reservoir would be Located on Savery
Creek approximately 8.5 miles north of the town of Savery,
Wyoming (figure 3-1). The dam would be located in Sections land
2, T13N, R89W. The dam would be approximately 200 feet high and
impound about 52,000 acre-feet of water at normal pool. The
reservoir would extend approximately 7.7 stream miles upstream of
the dam on Savery Creek, 1.9 stream miles up Big Sandstone Creek
and 2.3 stream miles up Little Sandstone Creek and 0.1 stream
miles up He11 Canyon Creek, and would have a surface area of
approximately 960 acres at a pool elevation of 6,932 feet above
mean sea level (msl).
3.05 The proposed Sandstone- Dam would be located in a
constricted portion of a narrow canyon just below-the mouth of
Little Sandstone Creek. The canyon width is narrowed by a long,
lo;~ ridge which would form the left abutment. The right abutment
i~ a steep slope varying from 40 degrees to 70 degrees.
Elevations in the site area range from about 8,15.0 feet msl on
3-2
