w
~ ~ a
cross sections E-16 and E-17.5 was very active with up to 9 ft of sand deposition along the left
bank. This quantity of sand could severely impact an inlet located in this reach.
A potential return flow drainage way from the wetlands to the river would be located
at the south end of the wetlands area near cross section E-17.5. An existing constructed
drainage way to the river has been blocked by earth fill. This drainage channel could be
excavated and a gate control could be designed to establish a vaziable wetlands water surface
depending on the river stage.
From this data collection project and analysis of the field data, it can be concluded that
the wetlands can be flooded frequently at moderate river dischazges. Some excavation would
be required to create a river channel inlet, channel to the wetlands and return flow drainage
way. Additional investigation may required to overcome the problems related to high selenium
concentrations in some azeas of the old meander bend. Several recommendations are presented
in the following section that would facilitate the construction of the wetlands hydraulic control
facilities.
36
