46 <br />designated the outer slope--facing the main river channel, the inner <br />slope--f acing the nearest river bank, and the bank slope--contiguous with the <br />canyon slopes. <br />At most sites, the floodline was found either in Zone IV or V (between 2 <br />and 3 m above the August river level). The terraced bank at Mather's Hole <br />exhibited a floodline in Zone III and the gravel bar at the same site showed <br />evidence of scouring above Zone V, probably due to an upwelling of water as it <br />passes over the bar during high water. <br />Significant differences between adjacent zones for any parameter are <br />indicated on the tables by heavy lines. These were determined by a lack of <br />overlap between the 95$ confidence intervals between the zones. <br />
