32
2. In the past, channel catfish were stocked in 1981 through 1985 and
catfish fishing was good. It also was a popular fishery. After stocking
~ was discontinued the fishery gradually died out, probably due to a lack
of natural reproduction.
6. Species and numbers
~ 1. Channel catfish - 7,200/yr
2. Rainbow trout - continue with current management
IV. Escapement factors
A. Escapement potential -All water leaving this reservoir is used for irrigation,
~ no water runs directly to the Colorado River. Reservoir inflows are through
a pipe so there is no chance for escapement upstream.
B. Survival potential following escapement -Catfish could potentially survive
in the Colorado River in this area however they have yet to appear in the
river after many years of living in Harvey Gap Reservoir.
•
•
C. Control measures to avoid escapement -The reservoir is managed so that
all water releases are used for irrigation. No further control measures are
needed.
V. Impact to endangered species
A. Impacts -None anticipated.
B. Measures to remedy an impact, including feasibility -None planned;
however, the catfish population would gradually die off if stocking was
discontinued.
•
•
•
•
