Physical Description: Harvey Gap Reservoir is located in the basin of a
small order stream. Water to fill the reservoir comes through a diversion
from East Rifle Creek. All water releases are made into a canal system for
irrigation. The reservoir is managed to not spill, however if an infrequent
spill occurs that water also goes into the irrigation system. There is no
• direct connection from Harvey Gap Reservoir to the Colorado River.
C. Existing fish community -Rainbow trout, largemouth bass, black crappie,
channel catfish, northern pike, and white sucker were sampled in 1993.
White sucker and black crappie were the most abundant species. Brown
trout, smallmouth bass, and bluegill were also present in 1987 and may
• still inhabit the lake in small numbers. Catchable size rainbow trout are
stocked annually. Channel catfish were most recently stocked in 1992
and 1993.
•
II. Management Strategy
A. Manage as a mixed species recreational fishery.
B.
