River kilometers
(RK) are from the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers.
addition, capture records of fish over a 15-year
period were used to describe general movement
patterns. Fidelity to spawning sites was determined
by both telemetry and recapture data.
Study Area
The study area included the Green River be-
tween the mouth of the White River (river kilo-
meter [RK] 391, from the confluence of the Green
and Colorado rivers) upstream to the confluence
of the Green and Yampa rivers (RK 555) (Figure
1). This reach includes the upstream portion of the
longest low-gradient (0.1%) section of the Green
River downstream of Flaming Gorge Dam. As-
sociated with this low-gradient reach is the largest
area of floodplain habitat in the Green River basin
occupied by endangered fishes (Irving and Burdick
1995). Spring high flows in the middle Green River
are determined by the relatively free-flowing Yam-
pa River and the summer base flows from reservoir
discharges from Flaming Gorge Dam (Tyus and
Karp 1989).
