II

II

(which is National Forest Land). Because the local elk population of 500-1 000
use the allotment early in the spring, this alternate arrangement allows the vegeta-
tion in Lost Park a period of time to rebound and gain vigor before the cattle are
allowed to graze in the fall.

II

II

Results: By implemented alternative grazing at the Lost Park and Oak
Ridge State Wildlife Areas, and through use of two different drift fences, the total
amount of time livestock graze Lost Park has been reduced to 30 days. This man-
agement plan is anticipated to improve the riparian and aquatic habitat conditions
at both creeks. Restoration activities are being closely monitored over a 5 year
period using the following techniques: channel-cross sections, pebble counts,
riparian vegetation transects, macro-invertebrate sampling, and photographic doc-
umentation. At the end of this 5 year monitoring period in the year 2000, a com-
plete evaluation on the success of the restoration efforts will be compiled.

II

II

II

Riparian area
sedges and rushes
have grown back
into damaged areas.

II

II

II

II

II

II

II

Exclosures were
~. erected around
damaged riparian
areas to hasten the
healing process.

.

II

Driving Guide .
