Any other recommendations appropriate. . <br />6- Prepare for the Council secretary an itemization of travel costs <br />needs for Technical Committee representatives, the chairman of sub- <br />committees and members to travel to Technical meetings and Council <br />meetings. <br />7- A report of the Fish Disease Program and Policy, with <br />recommendations, in a general review of that program for its adequacy <br />in controlling the introduction and spread of serious diseases and to <br />handle disease problems given the rapid increase in the commercial <br />fish raising industry in the basin. While the Council assignment <br />should be particularly applied to Whirling Disease, which consumed <br />much interest of the Council, it should be applied to other serious <br />diseases as well. <br />The Council requested, with respect to Whirling Disease, a status <br />report of its occurrence and severity in the basin and a history of <br />what happened to produce its present status and occurrence - a <br />especially if there are any deficiencies in the current Council Fish <br />Disease Policy. The Council indicated a desire for recommendations <br />to handle Whirling Disease and other diseases if legislation is not <br />adequate. Are enforcement and internal policies of states adequate? <br />With particular respect to Whirling Disease, since it is present and <br />a certain amount of movement is uncontrollable, how do you protect <br />state fisheries responsibilities? Council also requested estimates <br />on what these recommended control procedures would cost and <br />recommendations by priority for scenarios to fund with particular <br />emphasis on the commercial industry assuming fair responsibility. <br />*(This would necessitate a draft proposal prior to the Technical meeting, <br />finalization at the Tech, and submission to the USFWS in may 1988.) - R.S. <br />a <br />a
