Fish Disease Committee - reported to the Technical Committee that 60
fish cultural facilities were inspected during 1982. Of that total,
three stations were not certified - IPVN was isolated from one station,
whirling disease from another, and the owner of one facility would not
allow inspection. Clean-up operations are underway at the stations
where pathogens were isolated.
The downlisting of Channel Catfish Virus from prohibited to notifiable
status has been discussed. Committee members Goede and Anderson are
developing written rationale for the downlisting.
Other details on the work of the committee can be found in Exhibit B.
Hydrilla - Chairman Jim St. Amant reported to the Technical Committee.
He pointed out that field personnel should be knowledgeable about
hydrilla and that all member states should be encourated to participate
in the Bureau of Reclamation training course.
Warm-Water Cultural Station - for details see the minutes of the Technical
Committee meeting, Exhibit B.
After discussion, Doug Day made a motion that a standing committee be
formed to continue work on the warmwater cultural station. The motion
was seconded by Jack Grieb and carried unanimously.
Tilapia - Jim St. Amant, Chairman reported to the Technical Committee.
He called attention to what can happen when an exotic is released in
a drainage. The Prohibited and Protected Committee have been asked to
investigate the status and impacts of tilapia and provide recommendations.
After a short discussion, this concluded the report of the Technical
Committee.
B. Bureau of Reclamation operations and plans on the
Colorado River system and their effects on fish and
wildlife resources.
Upper Colorado Region
Wes Hirschi, Assistant Regional Director, made the presentation.
Most of the material presented is available for additional review in
Exhibit C.
. A number of different topics were discussed during the question
and answer period after the presentation. Among them were the Jones
Hole National Fish Hatchery; the asset management program; funding for
land acquisition for wetland habitat for ducks and geese and other migra-
tory birds; Section 8: fluctuating flows of the Colorado River; rewinding
of the generators, which due to new methods does increase the power produc-
tion; repair of Fontenelle Dam so it could be utilized for full capacity.
One particular point was brought out regarding the upgrading.and rewind-
ing of generators for power production. They are upgraded for more produc-
tion, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be operated at the
increased level.
4
