Aquatrain <br />On the Saline Water Use and Disposal Opportunities <br />Unit (Aquatrain), a Memorandum of Agreement between the Bureau and W.-R. <br />Grace was confirmed on November 2, 1982 by Commissioner Broadbent, a MOA <br />was signed March 25, 1983, between Reclamation and BLM for funding and <br />work on the Environmental Statement. <br />e. Grand Valley Unit <br />On Grand Valley Unit, Stage I, the Government High- <br />line Canal, the contractor has completed all major items of work. On the. <br />Government Highline laterals, the contract was 99.7 percent complete the <br />end of February. The contract for the the moss and debris removal <br />structure was 45.2 percent complete the end of February. <br />On Grand Valley Unit, Stage II, data collection are <br />underway. <br />f. Paradox Valley Unit <br />Work on five additional wells and a brine pipeline <br />extension were completed in November, ahead of schedule. The contract is <br />for assisting in specification review, contract selection and briefing, <br />and injection testing. Consultations regarding drilling and well construc- <br />tion will be awarded on the open market. It was decided it would not be <br />feasible to use the Conoco Well for a deep-well injection because it would <br />be virtually impossible to remove the drill bit that is lodged in the well. <br />Work is. now underway on specifications for drilling an entirely new well at <br />a different location. This contract should be awarded in January 1984. <br />4. Power Peaking Studies <br />a. General <br />Among the methods of increasing capacity for peaking power <br />demands are uprating existing generators, increasing the hydroelectric <br />3
