Technical Committees
A professional technical committee made up of representatives from each state advises
the Council. This committee provides the basic biological expertise on matters pertaining to
fish and wildlife.
Because of travel considerations and common problems, subcommittees reporting to the
Technical Committee are organized as Upper and Lower Basin sections. The lower basin
states are Arizona, California and Nevada. The upper basin states are Colorado, New Mexico,
Utah and Wyoming.
Also reporting to the Technical Committee is the Prohibited and Protected Fishes,
Amphibians and Reptiles Committee. This group oversees the work of the Endemic Species
Committees which also are organized as Upper and Lower Basin sections.
The Endemic Species Committees are responsible for consolidating management
programs for endemic species which are under varying degrees of environmental stress, and
they also coordinate the activities of study groups and recovery teams. Here is a chart
illustrating the lines of authority for the various committees reporting to the Council:
COLORADO RIVER WILDLIFE COUNCIL
TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
Technical Subcommittee Technical Subcommittee
Lower Basin Upper Basin
PROHIBITED AND PROTECTED FISHES,
AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES COMMITTEE
Endemic Species Committee I I Endemic Species Committee
Lower Basin Upper Basin
3
