<br />~Jhere do we stand tOday with regard to Section 7 on large mainstemreservoirs? <br /> <br />Glen Canvon Dam <br /> <br />As you.ve heard earlier from Rick Gold. Reclamation is trying to accommodate a <br />number of uses in the Canyon and is exploring those alternatives through the <br />NEPA process. Service concerns which are being handled through Region 2'5 <br />Phoenix Office centers mostly on the protection of the humpback chub <br />population found in the Little Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. <br />Operations at the dam which affect daily minimums and maximums. the rate of <br />fluctuation. seasonal changes in monthly volumes. and the potential for spills <br />or floods are all being addressed. <br /> <br />FlaminQ GorQe <br /> <br />As many of you know. we are in the process of preparing a biological opinion <br />on the o~eration of Flaming Gorge. Details of the opinion will depend on <br />findings and recorrmendations (due out this month) of research biologists who <br />have been intensively studying the Green and Yampa Rivers for the last 6 <br />years. We anticipate our opinion will continue to constrain operations <br />(within normal operating limits) to provide habitat at Jensen for larval and <br />y-o-y fishes in the late summer and early fall and to provide research flows <br />for evaluating the need for specific rel~ases in winter and spring. <br /> <br />Lucy asked me to address how our recommendations m.i.9.h.t affect primary purposes <br />of Flaming Gorge reservoir. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />... <br />
