Attribute #1: Water Temperature

Grass carp metabolism and aquatic vegetation consumption is determined by water
temperature. Feeding activity is greatest from 70-80 F and negligible below 50 F. An obvious
relationship between lake elevation and accumulated daily temperature units (DTU s) > 55 F exists, as
can be seen in the figure below.

ACCUMULATED DAILY TEMPERATURE UNITS >55F (DTUs)
BY ELEVATION (feet) FOR COLORADO LAKES AND PONDS.

2500
2000
ACCUMULATED
DAILY 1500
TEMPERATURE
UNITS >55F
1000
500
0
4000

6000 8000 10000 12000
LAKE ELEVATION (feet)

From the table below, determine the DAILY TatIPERA TURE UNIT (DTU) VALUE for your
lake using the lake elevation m: DTU if known.

Elevation Accumulated DAILY DTU
of Lake (ft) TEMP.
