Lake Itasca to Coffee Pot (River Mile 1347 to 1329) - 18 river miles; limited access by <br />road; wild river class; generally river flows through a broad marsh and the predominant land <br />use is forested; stretch of rapids adds interest to this river segment. Limited access at several <br />river crossings (North Park Drive; Highway 200; CSAH 37; CSAH 2) <br /> <br />2. Coffee Pot to Pine Point (River Mile 1329 to 1308) - Approximately 21 river miles; <br />limited access by road; wild river class; similar conditions to Segment 1, but possibly more <br />remote in terms of access; active forestry is predominant use (can be heard from the river); <br />wilderness stretch; a couple of DNR campsites between these points; crossings at Beltrami <br />CSAH 5). <br /> <br />August 24 <br />September 5 <br /> <br />3. Pine Point to Bemidii (River Mile 1308 to 1285) - Approximately 23 river miles; human <br />presence more visible; wild and scenic river class; forestry, agriculture, residential and seasonal <br />residential land uses; crossings at CSAH 7 and west of Carr Lake. <br /> <br />July 4, 5 <br />August 7, 22 <br /> <br />4; Bemidii to Cass Lake (River Mile 1282 {lake} to 1265) - Approximately 17 river miles; <br />considerable development, including urban and industrial at Bemidji and Cass Lake; river passes <br />through several lakes; river impounded east of Bemidji; shoreline development; several parks <br />and accesses in this stretch which is classified as scenic. <br /> <br />June 12, 13, 14, 17,22, 24 <br />July 30 <br />August 7 <br /> <br />5. Cass Lake to Reese Landing on Lake Winnie {River Mile 1257 flake} to 1247) - <br />Approximately 10 river miles; Very remote wilderness (classified wild) between Cass and <br />Winnie and east of Winnie; meandering channel through sand dunes; unique wetlands and <br />drainage; waterfowl, wildlife; contiguous with Chippewa National Forest and Leech Lake Indian <br />Reservation; local use for hunting; ricing; partying (?); impoundments on Cass, Winnie and <br />Leech Lake River affect water flows. Great waterfowl area and good for bird watching in the <br />spring; also wild rieing and duck hunting.
