GUNNISON RIVER
Whitewater Site - 9/27/84

Comparison of aerial photographs indicate the development of a
large gravel mining operation on the south bank of the White-
water site. This development, along with upstream regulation of
the Gunnison River, appears to have decreased the number and
extent of the bars in the river. The river has become less
sinuous below the gage location and bank vegetation has been
removed. Gage flows on the pnoto dates are sufficiently differ-
ent to cause morphological differences yet the shifting of
island position and size suggest tnese pattern Shifts are
related to the regulated flows and flood plain activities.

Conclusion: Channel conditions have remained stable.

,

Bridgeport Site - 9/27/84

Channel conditions appear identical on the two photo sets. A
substantial difference in flow exists between the photo dates
but channel morphology differences are minor. The Channel is
controlled by the confining canyon walls at the site.

Conclusion: Channel conditions have remained stable.
