<br />~ <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />:33 <br /> <br />Chapter IV <br />PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA <br /> <br /> <br />The basic objective of this study has been the investigation <br />of I3OllI8 of the factors innuencing fish species composition and <br />distribution within Dinosaur National Monument. The primary factors <br />studied were: stream-now, stream temperature, turbidity, habitat <br />preferenoes of the fish fauna, bottom types, food types, fish species <br />rood habits, and the accidental stream pollution during September, 1962. <br /> <br />~ species composition <br />Thirteen species of fish representing five fwnilies were <br />collected in the thesis area. Six of the species oolleoted were members <br />of the family Cyprinidae, three were loombers of the family Catosto1ll1dae, <br />and two speoies were represented in the family Iotaluridae. One <br />specie. trom each of the families Cottidae and Centrarohidae were also <br />colleoted. <br /> <br />The six members of the family Cyprinidae inoluded redside <br />shiners lUchardsonius balteatus (Richardson), speokled daoe Rhiniohth.vs <br />osculus (Girard), fathead ndnnows Pimephales promelas Rafinesque, <br />bonytaU chubs ~ robusta Baird and Girard, Colorado squawfish <br />Ptychocheilus lucius Girard, and carp Cyprin\1s oarpio Linnaeus. The <br />family Catostomidae was represented by nannelmouth suokers Catostomus <br />latipinnis Baird and Girard, bluehead suokers fantosteus delphinus <br />(Cope), humpback suokers Xyrauchon texanus (Abbott), and several apparent <br />hybrid suokers Catostonms latipinnis Baird and Girard X 1tn-auchen <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />. ; <br />
