We encountered multiple year classes
(possibly 4) of round tail chub, flannelrnouth sucker (4-5), and green sunfish (2-3) (Figure 2.1).

Roundtail chub were spawning, males were tuberculate and in breeding colors and we collected
one ripe female. We encountered only one non-native upstream ofFence Canyon; ajuvenile
brown trout. Length and weight information is provided in Table 2.3 and Figure 2.2.

Table 2.1 Physical measurements (width, depth, length, velocity) of sites 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 sampled on
the Escalante River, Utah.

Site

Width
(m)

Site 1 9.8
8.5
7.6
Average 8.6

Site 2 0.4
10.7
9.8
Average 10.3

Site 3* 4.9
5.2
4.9
Average 5.0

Site 4 7.6
9.8
11.3
Average 9.6

Site 5* 4.8
4.0
2.1
Average 2.2

Length
(m)

38.7

43.3

30.5

21.3

29.0

* measurement of side channel.

Depth
(m)

Max.
