3

The habitat was again treated in October 1985, at which time only

non-native species were recovered. Adult razorback suckers were

stocked in January 1986, larvae were present by late March, and

juveniles of the 1986 cohort attained 18.2 to 20.4 cm (n = 12) by

December. Adults in the backwater were augmented by additional

fish stocked in March 1987, however, the berm was breached soon

after to again allow re-invasion by non-native fishes and escape of

both young (1986 and 1987 year-classes) and adult razorbacks.

Thus, only once among three attempts did the backwater remain

secure, and a small cohort of young razorback suckers was produced

(Minckley et al. 1991). Nonetheless, these attempts confirmed and

documented the potential of on-site spawning and grow-out.
