For literature reporting wet weight selenium
concentrations, dry weight concentrations are discussed here
assuming 753b moisture. The concentrations of selenium in
razorback sucker eggs from Dexter NFH are within the range of
values for control or reference fish. In contrast, Ogle and
Knight (1989) reported 6.1 µg/g selenium in female gonads of
adult fathead_minnows (Pimephales promelas) fed control diet
containing 0.4 µg/g selenium-these values are twice as high
as other reported values for control fish.
The concentrations of selenium in eggs of wild razorback Buck-
ets in our study (3.7-10.6 µg/g) were above those of control or
reference fish given in Table 2 and above those in eggs from
Dexter NI'H. However, the concentrations of selenium in milt of
razorback suckers in the present study (< 1.1-6.7 µg/g) were well
within the range of control or reference fish given in Table 2.
Selenium corcentrations in eggs reported by Peltz and Waddell
(1991; 4.9 µg/g) or by Waddell (pers. comm., 1992; 28 µg/g) for
razorback suckers collected from the Razorback Bar area of the
Green River in 1988 and 1991 were greater than those in eggs
from control or reference fish (Table 2).
