Draft Fmal Completion Report to UDWR for Contract #93-1070, Amendment 3

25

River as Schmidt (1996, unpublished manuscript) had done, a single reach was evaluated multiple times (e.g., Fig. 12,

Appendix D) to evaluate seasonal and discharge variation in channel complexity. The data collected in this study were

also used to evaluate the relationship between measures of channel complexity and habitat availability.

Basemaps

Reclamation provided color prints covering approximately 0.2 Ian of river, from video overflights conducted

between spring 1992 and fall 1994. While these prints were not scaled nor rectified, they were projected and adjusted to

a common base. Reclamation provided us with a mosaic of stitched images from the August 1993 overflight This

"video base map" was produced by registering approximately 70 prints to a geographically-referenced, rectified map

using two steps. US Geological Survey 1 :24,000 orthophoto maps and intermediate 1:6000 scale aerial photography

were used to register the video images. These maps were termed "video base maps" by Reclamation so that no

implication of accuracy was made. Tlie residual error for the common points used in making the base map was less than

the national ~p accuracy standard for the 1:24,000 orthophoto on which this mosaic was based (Fenton, 1995, pees.

comm.). The mosaic of images for the river was split into 4 sections by Reclamation. The software used to split the

map into sections did not preserve the coordinate system between sections, but did preserve the orthogonality of the

maps (Fenton. 1996, pers. cornm.). Orthogonality and scale were verified using USGS 7.5 minute quads. Table 3

summarizes the dates and discharges of imagery used.

Table 3.
