The Colorado River Water Conservation District put the
project on hold in the spring of 1982 after Colorado-Ute
Electrical Association dropped out of the project. Col-
orado-Ute dropped out of the project because of a decline
in the demand for electrical power, peaking pO\ver in par-
ticular. The river district is now seeking other private
sector sponsors for the project. To date only Public Service
Company of Colorado has expressed an interest in the project.

.

Comments: The Juniper Reservoir is a part of a larger projectj The Juniper-
Cross Mountain Project, which if developed, would be the largest
water resource project in Colorado. The project is planned as a
multiple-use facility providing water for irrigation, municipal
and industrial use, and for the production of peaking power.
The two reservoirs also will be available for recreational
activities such as sport fishing, swimming, and camping.

Information Source: 41

33
