American Fisheries Society <br />The American Fisheries Society (AFS) is an international professional and scientific <br />organization of more than 8,200 fisheries managers and aquatic scientists. Founded in <br />1870, the AFS is the world's oldest and largest scientific body dedicated to the <br />advancement of fisheries science and the conservation of renewable aquatic resources. <br />The American Fisheries Society is a nonprofit organization. Its objectives are <br />conservation, development, and use of recreational and commercial fisheries; promo- <br />tion of all branches of fisheries science and practice; and exchange and dissemination <br />of knowledge about fish, fisheries, and related subjects. <br />The American Fisheries Society takes responsible and objective positions on conser- <br />vation and environmental issues that affect aquatic environments and resources.
