Water exchange in the new tubes was through a
screened bottom and four 48-mm circular holes cut in each tube.
Based on fish ,growth during Phase II, A-250 and SCSS were
chosen as the diets for Phase III. Fish fed A-250 during Phase II
were pooled, and a sample of 300 fish selected and their mean
weight determined (mean = 0.073 g, SD = 0.0087). These fish
were randomly divided into three lots of 100 fish each. Two of the
lots were kept on their original diet of BioKyowa-A (250 ....), and
the other lot was changed to diet SCSS. Fish fed SCSS during Phase
II were also pooled, and a sample of 200 fish was selected and the
fish's mean weight determined (mean = 0.038 g, SD = 0.0021).
These fish were randomly divided into two lots of 100 fish each.
One lot was kept on the original diet of SCSS and the other lot
switched to diet A-250.
This diet reversal was performed in order to more fully evaluate
the diets, i.e., would fish response be similar with reversed diets or
affected by prior .conditioning. A-250 was chosen for Phase III be-
cause of its superior performance, and the SCSS diet was chosen

I
