AN INTERNATIONAL NETWORK EXAMPLE International Mire Conservation Group (IMCG) The objectives of the IMCG are: - to foster wider appreciation of mires as ecological systems; and - to emphasize the urgent need for their pro- tection. by 1. supporting conservation measures; 2. identifying mires of international impor- tance; 3. assembling information and reviewing re- search needs; 4. developing recommendations for international mire conservation policy; and 5. establishing an international communication network. The IMCG meets every 2 years. It has about 25 active members, and networks to 11 nations.; members each have extensive national networks. It has been effective in lobbying the governments of Sweden, England and Ireland to develop improved peatland conservation programs. The IMCG was initiated in about 1984.
