<br />SUMMARY <br />Our data indicated that Colorado pikeminnow and a razorback sucker disperse into the Green <br />River Canal. Colorado pikeminnow (n=10), Gila spp. (n=2), and a razorback sucker (n=1) were <br />observed and found in the raceway and canal system. The razorback sucker was captured in the <br />raceway in mid-June 2000. Colorado pikeminnow were primarily found between the first and <br />second siphons in mid-July 2000. In addition, one pikeminnow was captured in the raceway and <br />released back into the Green River in mid-September 2000. Two other pikeminnow were <br />observed in the raceway. <br />No larval razorback sucker or Colorado pikeminnow were captured in the drift nets or light traps <br />set in the raceway and Green River Canal. But flannelmouth sucker larvae, red shiners, and <br />fathead minnows were captured in the canal. The total number of larval and small fish collected <br />was low compared to Cavalli (2000). Light traps and drift nets were only set for one day in June <br />2000. Cavalli (2000) did capture one pikeminnow and 11 other larval species. Assuming larval <br />fish are randomly distributed in the water column, Cavalli (2000) suggested the Tusher Wash <br />facilities are responsible for the loss of about 2% razorback sucker larvae and nearly 5% of <br />Colorado pikeminnow larvae. Although we collected no endangered fish larvae, based on the <br />collections of this study and Cavalli (2000) the probability exists that larval pikeminnow would <br />be entrained in the Green River Canal. <br />As the canal was drained at the end of the irrigation season in November, no endangered fish <br />were found stranded. Fish found stranded in isolated pools were flannelmouth sucker, bluehead <br />sucker, red shiner, carp, fathead minnow, channel catfish, and green sunfish. Cavalli (2000) <br />found few fish in the canal when it was dry. Anecdotal information from Cavalli (2000) reported <br />a Colorado pikeminnow was found in a ditch after the irrigation season.
