canal.
The draining of the Green River Canal began 10 November 2000 after the irrigation season. On
14 November the canal was electrofished but no endangered fish were seen. Once the canal had
drained, no endangered were found stranded; however, a few red shiners, carp, bluehead sucker,
and flannelmouth sucker were found in isolated pools. Cavalli (2000) also examined the canal a
few weeks after draining in 1998. He found a few fish stranded, but he also found tracks from
birds, humans, and other mammals, suggesting more fish may have been stranded than he
observed. Based on what we observed, the canal does not appear to strand many fish. However,
Cavelli reported that a local resident found a Colorado pikeminnow in his ditch after the
irrigation season (year unknown).
