localities. A projection of the 1965 data provided by the state
fish and game departments indicates that the 1965 level of angler
use will have increased 27 percent by 1980, 82 percent by 2000 and
144 percent by 2020.

Estimated fisherman expenditures for future target years have been
derived by multiplying projected demand by 1965 man-day expenditures.
The resultant totals are indicative only because they are based on
1965 dollars and costs and on the assumption that the future fish
resources will be adequate to meet the demand. The expenditure
estimates are shown below with nonresident expenditures shown
separately since the trend in future nonresident demand increases
somewhat faster than that of resident demand.
Hunting requirements within the region are expected to show the
smallest change between 1966 and 1980, with a more pronounced
increase thereafter. Participation by regional residents should
double by 2020, the expected increase being 110 percent. Hunting
originating from the rapidly growing metropolitan areas outside
the region would have a more pronounced increase of a projected
147 percent.

Expenditures for hunting in 1965 were less than for fishing because
of the smaller number of man-days devoted to hunting. In the future
this difference will be proportionately wider because of the lower
level of hunting by nonresidents. This is illustrated in the
following projected expenditure data:
