-44-
Catchable rainbow trout were marked with two marks in 1977.
. The first batch planted in April and May were marked with a right
pelvic fin clip, while the second two thirds planted in late June
and late July were marked with a left pelvic clip. Different clips
were used to compare the return of early and midsummer plants. The
983 rainbow trout brood fish planted in the river in August were not
marked.
A total of 22,649 pounds of fish were stocked in 1977, not
including the weight of brood fish. This compares to a total of
19,423 pounds of fish harvested in 1977, or a deficit of catch
over stocking of 3,226 pounds.
Trout in the upper section of the Green River grew throughout
the fishing season (Table 19). Catchables stocked before the fishing
season opened at 254 mar returned at 274 mm during May and June, 288 mm
during July and August, and 295 during September through November.
Catchables stocked in June and July showed a similar pattern. Hold-
over catchables stocked in 1976 continued to grow in 1977, returning
at 319 mm in early summer, 327 mm in July and August, and 349 mm in
September through November.
Table 19.
