Larry Crist, Fisheries Biologist for Reclamation, is the new Chairperson of the RIP Biology Committee.
Reclamation continues to fund and support research activities below Glen Canton dam; a draft biological opinion
was received this year for Reclamation's operations of the Glen Canyon facility.
Pecos River and Rio Grande five year native fish research programs are ongoing. A meeting between
Reclamation and the Service was held this year to discuss alternative methods to assist in recovering the Rio Grande
silvery minnow and protect other native fauna. Pecos research into effects of irrigation releases on the native fish
community included a one year drift net study. In addition, the endangered fish refugium channel at Phantom Lake
Springs was constructed in 1993, with fish being introduced into the channel in September.
