ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The author wishes to thank those who participated in the collection of
biological data associated with this project. Mike C. Baker, Thad Bingham, Matt
Campbell, Joe Flair, Sara Hollerich, Mike K1opf, Meredee Lloyd, Chuck McAda,
Brian Scheer, Dale Ryden, and Matt Toner participated in handling and processing
fish collected in the fish trap and in collecting fish with electrofishing,
trammel nets, and trap nets from off-channel ponds and from the Gunnison and
Colorado rivers.
Redlands Water and Power Company, owner of property surrounding the
Redlands Diversion Dam, permitted access to the site. Joe Sullivan, U. S.
Geological Survey, Water Resources Division, Grand Junction, provided hydrology
data. Coll Stanton, Bureau of Reclamation, Grand Junction, retrieved and
provided discharge data for the Lower Gunnison River. Colleague Doug Osmundson
graciously shared his sub-adult and adult Colorado pikeminnow catch data from his
1998-2000 population estimate study for comparison purposes. Dr. Ron Ryel,
biometrician, provided statistical advice for analyzing whether discharge
affected seasonal numbers of native fish collected in the passageway fish trap.
Ron also analyzed capture data to derive a population abundance estimate for sub-
adult and adult Colorado pikeminnow in the Gunnison River.
Tom Nesler, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Denver, and John Mckern, Fish
Passage Solutions, Walla Walla, Washington, peer reviewed the report. Their
written comments were important contributions to this report. Dr. Edmund Wick
provided telephone comments and the author benefitted from his insightful remarks
on the various aspects of Colorado pikeminnow life history. Mark Wernke, Bureau
of Reclamation, provided a technical review and comments of the hydraulic and
engineering features of the fish passageway. John Hayse provided useful comments
to a later version of the report. Cheryl Harris proofread the report. Don
Wiltse, Fran Dillon, and Steve Culp, Bureau of Reclamation, were responsible for
conducting maintenance and providing assistance and heavy equipment to assist FWS
personnel in winterizing the fish passageway.
xi
