Construction began and was completed in the
winter of 1995-1996.

Some of the more difficult construction considerations that had to be dealt with for the
completion of the Redlands Fish Passageway are as follows:

1. Seasonal Construction - Construction was performed primarily during the winter
season between the months of November and March. The short construction window required
the implementation of "cold weather" construction techniques for most earthwork, concrete and
other cold weather sensitive materials or operations, Limited daylight hours and inclement
weather also hampered progress.

2. Unsuitable Foundations - The forebay structure foundation required some over-
excavation and foundation stabilization, Foundation stabilization was accomplished by
dewatering efforts, over-excavation, and placement of over-size pit-run material. A contract
modification and field adaptation was used to resolve the unsuitable foundation conditions.

3. Construction near Existing Facilities - The construction of the fish passageway
respresented a challenge in the coordination required around the diffent agencies (ie., Redlands
Water and Power Company and the City of Grand Junction), Protective measures had to be
implimented to provide protection of the existing structures. Some of the protective means taken
were as follows:

a. Piling driven to protect the Redlands Water and Power Companys' diversion
dam,
b. Relocation of the City of Grand Junction's 18 and 2 inch waterlines.
c. Excavation and dewatering near the City of Grand Junction's pump
house.

Gen-2
