Lafferty Welding) was <br />onsite setting up equipment in the vicinity of the entrance structure. About 3:00 p.m. the <br />subcontractor begins to drive piling using a FMC 82 ton crane for pile driving and a 27 lf2 ton <br />Lorain crane to position and thread piling, after about lf2 hour it is was determined there may be <br />additional buried concrete. Additional pieces of concrete were discovered and removed from the <br />area. <br /> <br />Reference Photo Nos. CN-1745-417-31NA and CN-1745-417-32NA <br /> <br />December 23, 1995, the piling subcontractor continued driving piling. Sixteen pieces of piling <br />were driven to a depth of ten feet. <br /> <br />Reference Photo No. CN-1745-417-33NA <br /> <br />December 27, 1995, the piling subcontractor completed driving piling for the protection of the <br />Redlands existing apron and abutment at the entrance structure. A total of 30 pieces of piling <br />were driven to an average depth of twenty two feet. <br /> <br />Reference Photo Nos. CN-1745-417-86NA and CN-1745-417-87NA <br /> <br />January 5, 1996, the contractor using a Drott 40 trackhoe began excavation at the entrance <br />structure. <br /> <br />Reference Photo No. CN-1745-417-43NA <br /> <br />January 12, 1996, a leak develops under existing concrete apron while contractor is excavating <br />near piling close to rivers edge. The leak was caused by voids under the adjacent concrete <br />apron. Three pumps are set but cannot keep up with water. Water fills excavation to the same <br />elevation of river before flow into excavation stops. <br /> <br />January 15, 1996, contractor's grout subcontractor drills 2-inch diameter holes in concrete apron <br />near abutment and pumps grout into holes (seven cubic yards of grout into two holes) to stop <br />leak. Modification No. 004 ($13,461.16) was used to compensate the contractor for the <br />flooding of the entrance structure. <br /> <br />January 16, 1996, the contractor resumes excavation at the entrance structure. <br /> <br />January 20, 1996, excavation for entrance structure is complete. <br /> <br />Const-3 <br />
