The impact of flow level and spawning habitat conditions will be evaluated with a combination of hydraulic analysis and modeling. The timing of spawning varies by species and to some extent by river. Data from the 1989 environmental analysis reported that rainbow trout spawning occurred during April and May in the Fryingpan River and during May and June in the Roaring Fork River. Egg incubation requires several weeks before fry emerge. The time to emergence for rainbow trout varies as a function of water temperature and other water quality parameters (Miller 1988). Brown trout spawn in the fall and egg incubation requires several months. Important criteria in the determination of impacts to spawning habitat include local stream hydraulic characteristics near spawnings, stream substrate characteristics during spawning and incubation, and stream water quality including water I temperature. We are assessing spawning habitat at three locations. The most upstream site is located on the Pruessing Property, approximately one kilometer downstream of the Catch and Release section.
