The Yampa River is a major tributary
to the upper Colorado River system, contributing approximately 1.6 million acre-feet (ac-ft) of water
annuallyto the-Green-River at-its ronfbienre in Fcho Park in T??psaur ????
1, Sw4Arex, shows the general project area.
Small reservoir sites were defined as those sites with potential storage volume ranging between 200
and 2,000 ac-ft. Phase 1 of the program, completed in February 2000, identified 106 potential sites
for consideration. Through preliminary screening, the number of sites was reduced to 24 for further
evaluation in Phase 2. The results of Phase 1 are documented in Yam Rtw Basin SnnU Resawir Surly
(Montgomery Watson, 2000) and summarized in Section 2.2 of this report. Phase 2 of the program is
a continuation of the initial small reservoir study and further evaluates potential storage sites in the
Yampa River basin.
1.2 REPORT ORGANIZATION
The report has been organized into the following sections.

1

Section 1- Introduction: Section 1 presents general information regarding the small
reservoir study and outlines the remainder of the Phase 2 report.
• Section 2 - Project Background: Background information is presented in Section 2,
including discussions of basin hydrology and water use. Phase 1 activities are
summarized and the scope for Phase 2 outlined.
• Section 3 - Preliminary Evaluation of Phase 2 Potential Small Reservoir Sites: This
section further evaluates sites reconunended in the Phase 1 study. Additional evaluation
criteria are described and sites are selected for field reconnaissance.
• Section 4 - Evaluation of Phase 2 Potential Small Reservoir Sites: This section
' describes field reconnaissance activities of the Phase 2 sites and further evaluates the
potential storage locations.
• Section 5 - Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendation: Section 5 summarizes
the Phase 2 study and outlines the small reservoir site(s) that are currently under
consideration due to public interest and the potential of meeting local existing and
currently-identified water needs in the Yampa River basin. Recommendations pertaining
to further investigation and conceptual design are presented.
• Section 6 - List of References: Section 6 presents a list of references cited within this
report.
In addition, supporting documentation is contained within the appendices.

Maxpwy Waacn * P.0 Bar 774018 * Sit Sprig, C mah 80477 * (970) 879-6260
w1Wr10551Ms 2AVM
