The <br />upstream end of Westwater Canyon is about 1Q.5 miles downstream from Black Rocks. <br />All Gila were removed from the nets, tentatively identified as humpback chub or roundtail <br />chub (G. robusta) and immediately placed in a fresh water holding tank. Other species were <br />identified, counted, and released at the collection site. Net locations were identified to the <br />nearest 0.1 mi and sampling time was recorded. After all nets were run, all Gila were returned <br />to a central location for processing. During processing, Gila were inspected more closely and <br />categorized as either humpback chub or roundtail chub using criteria outlined by Douglas et <br />al. (1989). Each fish was measured for total length (TL; ± 1 mm), weighed with an electronic <br />scale (± lg) and scanned for a passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag. Untagged fish were <br />equipped with a PIT tag before release. All Gila handled were sexed during the last sampling <br />trip of 1999 when an experienced observer was available to sex the fish (examination of the <br />3 <br />
