z
4. Nonnative Species and Sport Fishing
5. Research, Monitoring, and Data Management
Recovery elements 3, 4, and 5 require propagation and hatchery involvement.
Various numbers and sizes of the four species will be required to complete
research and to restore or augment depleted populations. This plan provides
several strategies for the systematic development of the initial 3 years of a
propagation program. It addresses several major components:
1. Updating and refining the need for hatchery reared fish in terms of
species, sizes, numbers, with associated timeframes.
2. Establishing parameters and guidelines for maintaining genetic diversity
and integrity--both in the wild, in the management of hatchery broodstock
and production, and in refugia.
3. Developing basin-wide criteria for the use and management of hatchery
produced fish.
4. Developing updated biological and engineering evaluations of existing and
new sites/facilities, including t~ potential use of new technologies (not
previously considered) to meet both short and long-term needs.
r
