CRYSTAL RESERVOIR
Crystal Reservoir is located 6 miles downstream of Morrow Point
Reservoir and approximately 20 miles east of Montrose. Crystal
Reservoir is modeled with a capacity of 26,000 acre-feet,
including an active capacity of 13,000 acre-feet. Like Morrow
Point, Crystal is operated as a reregulation reservoir and is kept
as full as possible. The only demands on Crystal, except for
power is a 200 or 300 cfs instream flow requirement for wildlife
and recreation below the Gunnison Tunnel (the 200 cfs represents
the absolute minimum and the 300 cfs is an alternative which is
being evaluated) and Gunnison Tunnel irrigation and power demands.
While these rights are not true demands from Crystal, they are
modeled as demands on Crystal and are provided from storage in all
four reservoirs. The reservoir balancing mechanisms in HYDROSS
makes 19 attempts to balance the storage in each reservoir based
upon the target contents provided. This allows water to be taken
from any available reservoir to maximize water conservation and
power production.
CRYSTAL RESERVOIR OPERATIONAL TABLES
TABLE 8
ELEVATION CAPACITY AREA OUTLET
FEET KAF KA CAPACITY
6670 0 0 0
6680 1.4 148 100
6690 3.0 180 200
6700 4.7 196 300
6710 6.5 215 511
6417 8.0 240 496
6723 9.4 260 1099
6730 10.9 285 1388
6737 12.6 295 1611
6746 15.0 335 1783
6755 17.6 360 1940
6762 19.7 365 2041
10
