Sources of information <br />Information on Wyoming anglers came from four sources in <br />1994: (1) a mail survey of resident anglers, (2) a mail survey of <br />nonresident anglers, (3) public meetings held throughout Wyoming, <br />and (4) survey forms inserted into the May/June issue of Wyoming <br />Wildlife News. <br />Methods <br />The resident mail survey was initiated in April 1994. A <br />random sample of 1,500 anglers was drawn from a list of all 1993 <br />purchasers of resident fishing licenses. The initial mailing <br />included a letter signed by the Chief of Fisheries, the survey <br />form, and a postage paid return envelope. Participants were <br />asked to rank on a scale of 1 to 10 (where values near 1 <br />indicated little interest, and values near 10 indicated strong <br />interest) their feelings about various fishery management <br />strategies, and their perception of what constitutes a quality <br />fishing experience. A second mailing took place 3 weeks later to <br />all anglers who had not yet returned their form. It included a <br />modified version of the initial letter from the Chief of <br />Fisheries, the survey form, and a postage-paid return envelope. <br />The nonresident mail survey was initiated in October 1994. <br />A stratified, random sample of 3,000 anglers was drawn from <br />records of nonresident licenses that were purchased between <br />January and August 1994.
