Hubert <br />Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit <br />University of Wyoming <br />Laramie, Wyoming 82071 <br />Introduction <br />As part of the planning efforts by the Fish Division of the <br />Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), the "Fisheries Future" <br />process conducted in 1994 included surveys of Wyoming anglers. <br />The surveys will provide fishery managers with objective <br />indications as to how the fishing public might react to possible <br />program or regulation changes. <br />The mission of the Fish Division is to maintain or increase <br />the supply and diversity of sport fishing opportunity, and to <br />maintain native non-game species, to satisfy recreational, <br />aesthetic, and educational needs. <br />An important aspect of fisheries management is communication <br />among management agencies and their clients. Good management <br />begins when plans or regulations are acceptable to anglers <br />(Pollock et al. 1994). Fishery managers need evidence that <br />program changes will be supported by the angling public. <br />Objective indications are needed as to how the fishing public <br />ii
